A boiling hot, but spectacularly beautiful day is coming to an end!
We eventually got away after 2 in the noon. It took a fair bit of time to get ready in the morning. First we checked the fishing net (1 grayling and 2 whittling, they´re real ugly, but taste like lake perch), clean and mend the net and pack it away, make breakfast (oats porridge with raisins) over open fire (we haven´t used the fuelstove at all, we´ve brought it as a backup in case of emergency), we grilled the whittling to eat for lunch and salted down the grayling for the future, then we broke camp and packed everything together.
We paddled all day in a blazing sun through a permanently flooded area. We´ve paddled through a spectacular fiordlandscape all day. The ever present round forest clad mountains have surrounded us all day, the water has been calm, it´s been utterly silent and snow-covered mountains have started to appear in the eastern horizon. It can´t get more pristinely beautiful than this!
The river rapids have taken a break. It´s been like paddling in a lake all day and we haven´t had a single centimeter for free. Hard work, but well worth it! |
