We skied into Ambarchik Bay yesterday, the 21st of April, after skiing 13 km:s with a hard southerly wind. Ambarchik Bay is our goalline! We pitched our tent for the last time at N 69°38´04.8 and E 162°13´45.8, and the view across the bay is beautiful!
Johan Ivarsson at the pen:
Yesterday was a strange day, in many ways unlike the others. It felt like we where flying across the ice-fields, with a strong wind in our backs to help us along the way. And all the usual negative thoughts that comes up during a day, about how tired I am from all the heavy pulling or how much my feet hurts, was all gone and instead replaced by excitement and eager. Eager to get to the place that we´ve put so much effort into to reach.
And here we are, Ambarchik Bay, at the mouth of Kolyma about 3500 km:s from where we started almost nine months ago. We´ve met so many personalities and experienced so many things along our route and I will always carry with me the memories and feelings from this time, they will never be forgotten! It will take some time, though, before I can really appreciate this moment. Right now I´m to tired after all this long time of hard slogging and I can´t wait to get back home to meet my girlfriend, parents and friends again. I´m sure, though, that once I´m back home, Kolyma with it´s incredibly friendly people and wild nature, will be greatly missed. One part of my heart will always belong to this region!
The adventure isn´t over yet, however. We´re supposed to be picked up by two snowmobiles who will transport us back to Chersky, a trip that I´m sure will be an experience hard to forget, and then we have to get back home to Sweden from there.
Anyhow, we made it! |
