2005-04-05 - Enjoying life in the tent

5th of April today and we´ve done 45 km:s during two days and have pitched the tent at N 68°33´13.1 and E 159°50´40.2. The sun is shining and there´s not a cloud on the sky to be seen. It´s a northerly wind of 2 m/s and the temperature inside the tent is 53°F.

It´s wonderful to be out here right now! The sun is blazing down on the tent and making it warm and cozy, the stove is working without too much of a problem and we´ve just had our first cup of steaming hot coffee after a long day of walking.
Just a minute ago a car stopped on the road, not far from the tent, and one of our friends from Kolymskaya came up to the tent to ask how we were. He then handed over two cold beers and some fresh grapes before continuing back home. And earlier today a truck stopped to give us a bottle of vodka and invite us to his home in Magadan. Amazing, how can people be so friendly?
Living in a tent right now is such a difference from earlier experiences we´ve had this winter. Right now we fully enjoy this free and fresh life. Earlier we were frozen cold all the time. However, even though the temperature is still down to -31°F during the night, the sun comes up early enough to thaw the ice off the tent before it´s time for us to get out of the sleepingbags. And there´s no stress anymore, we don´t have to get our clothes on as fast as possible or to get down into the sleepingbag as soon as the stove is turned off. Now we can take it easy and really enjoy this life that we both love so much. Last night we could even listen to some music from Bob Marley on the shortwave and relax!
It feels like we´ve earned this time of serenity, after all this long time of cold and hard work that we´ve gone through. I just hope that it will stay like this! |
