2005-02-08 - Rough start

8th of February. 15 km;s yesterday, we´re resting today. We´re staying at an abandoned log cabin at N 67°33´14.3 and E 154°50´24.6. Another sunny day with a light, but cold, wind from the southeast, the temperature this morning was -46°F but rose to -35°F during the day. The sun makes everything much easier!

Johan Ivarsson writes:

We´ve just got a surprise visit to the cabin we´re staying in!

Three Even hunters in reindeer coats, covered with snow and ice, just rushed in through the door. They´re on their way to Srednekolymsk to resupply and wants to warm up a little before they continue.

The first days of traveling north again have been rough for me. The cold, which I had before we left, caught up with me again and when we camped the first night I had a fever and I was coughing badly. The second day started in the same way, I threw up and the first hours of the day was like a nightmare, but as the sun rose, I started feeling better. Now, two days later, I´m feeling a lot better.

When I´m sitting here now, in the light of a candle, listening to the fire and knowing that I have a warm night indoors ahead of me, I have to say that it feels great to be out here again!

One of our visitors!
